After more than 20 years working together in intimate health, Finnish founders Heli Kurjanen and Mira Mäkelä are entering a new chapter with Augusta Nordic, a brand making hormonal well-being, intimate comfort, and pleasure part of the conversation.
There are some conversations women have become remarkably good at avoiding.
We talk about skincare and aging, but intimate skin is often left out of the conversation. Menopause may be discussed more openly than before, yet dryness, sensitivity, and discomfort during intimacy can remain difficult subjects to raise.
For Heli Kurjanen and Mira Mäkelä, this silence represents an opportunity for change.

Their story began long before Augusta Nordic.
Heli founded Lunette, the Finnish menstrual care brand, in 2005, with Mira also part of the team. Having worked together for around 20 years, the pair bring extensive shared experience in intimate health to their latest venture. Augusta is their first company founded together, building on a journey shaped by listening to women’s needs and challenging taboos surrounding intimate wellbeing.
From Real Conversations to a New Kind of Care

Augusta was created around a simple question: why should intimate care remain overlooked when hormonal changes can significantly affect how the body feels?
During perimenopause and menopause, intimate skin may become drier or more sensitive, while changes in natural lubrication can make intimacy uncomfortable. Similar changes can also occur during other hormonal life stages, including postpartum recovery and breastfeeding.
Augusta aims to address these needs with thoughtfully formulated intimate skincare designed for changing and sensitive skin. Its philosophy is not about making women feel that their bodies need fixing but about offering care that acknowledges their experiences.
For Heli and Mira, this represents a continuation of the work they have been doing together for two decades: helping women feel more informed, comfortable, and confident in their bodies.

Nordic Simplicity, Guided by Purpose
Made in Finland, Augusta’s products are vegan and dermatologically tested for sensitive skin. The formulations feature carefully selected ingredients, including Nordic botanicals, reflecting the brand’s considered approach to intimate skincare.
Rather than overwhelming consumers with complicated routines, Augusta has deliberately developed a simple but comprehensive four-product range covering cleansing, hydration, lubrication, and protection.
The Hydrating Shower Cream offers gentle, soap-free cleansing and can also be used as a leave-on moisturising cream. The lightweight Soothing Hydration Gel provides daily hydration, while Comfort Glide Gel is designed to enhance lubrication and comfort during intimacy. Completing the collection, the rich, waterless Soothing Barrier Balm helps protect sensitive external skin from friction and chafing.
Each product serves a distinct purpose, and the four can be used individually or together, depending on personal needs.
This simplicity is central to Augusta’s philosophy. Intimate skincare need not be complicated, but it should recognise that cleansing, hydration, lubrication, and protection are different needs. Its formulations focus on purposeful ingredients, avoiding what the brand describes as unnecessary ingredients.

More Than Skincare
Augusta’s ambition extends beyond its products. Education, information, and more open conversations about hormonal health form part of a wider mission to help women understand their changing bodies without embarrassment or shame.
The brand also believes business success should go hand in hand with social impact. From the beginning, Augusta has committed to donating 1% of its revenue towards advancing equality, making this principle part of its wider purpose.
Together, its product philosophy and social commitment reflect an approach to intimate well-being that considers both individual needs and the bigger picture.

Because Intimacy Doesn’t Have an Expiry Date
Women are encouraged to invest in their well-being as they age, yet conversations about their intimate and sexual health can become increasingly invisible. Discomfort is sometimes accepted as an inevitable part of getting older, rather than something that deserves understanding and appropriate care.
Augusta challenges that assumption.
Its message is not that aging is something to fight but that changing bodies deserve attention, respect, and thoughtful care at every stage of life.
For Heli and Mira, Augusta represents the next chapter in a shared journey that began with Lunette and continues through a commitment to making intimate health easier to discuss. Their approach brings together a focused product range, considered formulations, and a belief that women’s experiences deserve to be heard.
Intimate well-being should never be a source of shame, and comfort and pleasure should never be treated as privileges reserved for a particular age.
